Our Beliefs
Our Beliefs
This simplified Statement of Faith is included in the Constitution and By-Laws of the Church of God General Conference. It is a summary of the truths commonly believed and taught in the Church of God.
We believe in one true God, a literal and almighty being who is eternal and the Creator of all things. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:18; 1 Timothy 2:5)
We believe that Jesus Christ is the sinless and only begotten Son of God, born of the virgin Mary. He existed only from His birth. (Luke 1:32-35; 1 Peter 1:18-20)
We believe that the Holy Spirit is God's divine power and influence, manifest in His mighty works and in the lives of His people. It is not a person. (Genesis 1:2; Romans 8:11)
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God and the only authoritative source for Christian doctrine and practice. (2 Timothy 2:15; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
We believe that man was created innocent but fell under the condemnation of death through disobedience. All persons are sinful and mortal, in need of salvation. (Genesis 2:7, 3:4-19; Ecclesiastes 9:4,10; Romans 3:9-11; 6:23)
We believe that salvation is by the grace of God through the atoning blood of Christ. It involves forgiveness of sins, the imparting of God's Spirit, and the gift of immortality at Christ's return. (Acts 8:12; Romans 1:16, 6:1-6; Acts 22:16; Galatians 4:6; Ephesians 3:16-17)
We believe that the Church of God consists of those who have been called out through obedience to the gospel. Christ is the Head of the church, as set forth in the New Testament. (2 Corinthians 1:1; Ephesians 5:23-25)
We believe that the Christian life is one of consecrated discipleship to Jesus Christ, marked by love, prayer, stewardship, and tithing. (1 Timothy 4:11-16; Titus 2:11-14; Malachi 3:10)
We believe that Israel refers to the literal descendants of Abraham through Jacob. As God's chosen nation, Israel will be restored to Palestine as the head of nations in God's Kingdom. (Ezekiel 36:21-32)
We believe that Christ will return to establish the Kingdom of God on earth. He will reign as King in Jerusalem, with the church as joint-heirs. This will be followed by the final judgment and the establishment of a new heaven and earth. (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 5:9-10, 20:4-5; 2 Peter 3:12-14)
